Pretzel Crust Brownies

These pretzel crust brownies are life changing. They can pull even the most miserable human out of their downward spiral. They’ve got a killer pretzel crust and a fudgy dark chocolate brownie filling that could end all of the world’s sadness. But the kicker with these is the caramel topping with Fusion® Espresso and Habanero Sea Salt. The espresso sea salt provides a nice jolt to shake anyone free of gloom and doom, while the habanero sea salt has been known to ignite a little burst of motivation–like maybe even enough to get one to change out of those pajama pants.

Like I said, life changing. I suggest whipping these up for any ladies (or gentlemen) going through a tough time. First give them sympathy, then give them brownies, works every time. Never underestimate what a healthy helping of butter and sugar can do to a shattered spirit. In my own home, I’ve dubbed these “break up brownies” and I’ve made them enough times that I’m actually starting to think that they’re factored into the breakup debate in favor of singledom.

Pretzel Crust
  1. 1 cup crushed pretzels
  2. ½ cup all-purpose flour
  3. ½ cup packed brown sugar
  4. 1 tsp. baking soda
  5. ½ cup melted butter
  1. 1. Combine pretzels, flour, brown sugar, and baking soda in a bowl.
  2. 2. Pour melted butter into dry ingredients and press into 9X13 baking dish to form crust
  3. 3. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes, let cool
  1. 7 oz. semi-sweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
  2. ¾ cup vegetable oil
  3. ¼ cup water
  4. 1 cup sugar
  5. 2 eggs
  6. 1 tsp. vanilla
  7. 1 1/3 cups flour
  8. 2 pinches Fusion Espresso Brava Sea Salt
  9. 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  1. 1. Combined chocolate, oil and water in medium sauce pan on low heat until melted and incorporated.
  2. 2. Transfer melted chocolate to mixing bowl and combine with sugar, eggs and vanilla. Beat on low speed for 2 minutes.
  3. 3. Add flour, salt, and cinnamon to mixture and mix until combined.
  4. 4. Spread brownie mix over crust and bake for additional 20-25 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
  5. 5. Let cool for 1 hour
  1. 1 bag of caramel candies, unwrapped
  2. 2 tbsp. water
  1. 2. In medium sauce pan, melt down caramels with water on medium low heat
  2. 3. Once melted transfer melted caramel to large Ziploc bag
  3. 4. Snip corner of bag and drizzle caramel over brownies
  4. 5. Sprinkle sea salts over brownies and let cool for 2 hours before cutting

  • In the instructions for caramel, #1 says to top with sea salts, but #2 says to melt only caramels and water. Do you salt the caramels prior to melting and then salt again after putting caramels on the brownies? Thank you.

      That was our mistake! You only salt after putting the caramel on the brownies. Hope you enjoy! It’s edited in the recipe now.
