The most bittersweet holiday is just around the corner folks. That’s right, whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day or Singles Awareness Day (SAD), the clock is ticking to find that something special for that special someone. (Getting yourself flowers totally counts.) I am lucky enough to be celebrating with my very sweet boyfriend and while he is busy making me dinner on Valentine’s day, I will be baking up a couple of these bad boys.
Molten chocolate lava cakes are the first thing to catch my eye on the dessert menu, so I decided to try my hand at the gooey confections. SaltWorks Snowflake Sea Salt, Fusion Espresso Brava Sea Salt and Trader Joe’s Fleur de Sel Salted Caramels made these cakes extra special. I can’t wait to whip these up next weekend for my man. (But don’t tell it’s supposed to be a surprise!)
There are more tricks for making a roasted chicken than cheeses in France. We can probably thank our unfaltering devotion to family recipes.
The truth is, the tricks are simple (and not some proprietary secret from great great grandma). I want my roasted chicken recipe to result in three things:
I don’t care if your grandma was giving her chicken a sponge bath or telling it bedtime stories, create a rub with the following ingredients and you won’t be disappointed.
Blend Salish® smoked sea salt (coarse) with cornstarch.
And while you’re throwing together the rub, toss those taters in some boiling water.
Now, pat the whole chicken dry. Rub unsalted butter into the skin. Generously season the chicken with the salt/cornstarch mixture.

As the Super Bowl approaches, anxiety levels are starting to rise and we all know a good way to settle those nerves is with well-mixed Super Bowl cocktails. I ventured over to Matt’s Rotisserie & Oyster Lounge, to have one of their senior bartenders, Cam Hopkins, whip us up some fun and salty drinks that would hold their own in a battle of the booze.
When I presented bartender Cam with the idea of creating signature Super Bowl drinks with flavored sea salts, I could tell he was going to have as much fun with this with as I was. We started experimenting with our Fusion Lime Fresco Sea Salt and Blue Cucacao (the blue and green jersey’s didn’t give us much more to work with)! What Cam came up with was a sweet and tart Blue Curacao Margarita with Fusion® Lime Fresco salt that was both great to look at and to drink. This may be bias, but this was definitely my favorite drink of the night. GO HAWKS!
